Lake-to-Lake in Color Part 1

The 1961 Packers Lake-to-Lake card set produced by a local dairy was a unique full-team set of 36 cards to represent the team that won Vince Lombardi’s first championship. The photos were team publicity shots that were tinted green in a sepia-style presentation. Collecting the set can be a challenge for several reasons. The cards were often stapled to the dairy product they came with, the shades of green vary and the card edges are often uneven.

Still, it’s a fun set, and I’ve always wondered how it would look in color, so I colorized the full set. The first nine cards are posted below. The colorization quality, of course, depends largely on the quality of the original. The best option was a good scan of the original publicity shots, examples being Willie Davis, Jim Temp, Gary Knafelc, Henry Jordan and Bill Quinlan. When that option was not possible, I tried scans from game programs (Norm Masters and Bill Forester) or of the original cards themselves (Jerry Kramer and Emlen Tunnel).
